The world's biggest rotating aerial tram car located in Palm Springs was constructed in 1963 for the purpose of reaching the San Jacinto Peak from the Coachella Valley. Palm Springs Aerial Tramway's 10-minute scenic ride takes passengers 2.5 miles from 2,643 feet to 8,516 feet over the Chino Canyon and its magnificent wilderness. The engineering marvel began as the dream of electrical engineer Francis Crocker in 1935 to get to the top of the San Jacinto Mountains and was stalled throughout many years because of wars and political red tape. Renovations and additions were completed in 2000.
