The Smithsonian history museum located in the National Mall features more than three million pieces regarding America's heritage in the areas of technology, sociology, science and culture. Some of the treasured items include the Star-Spangled Banner, a Samuel Morse telegraph, Dorothy’s ruby red slippers, an Alexander Graham Bell telephone, Muhammad Ali’s boxing gloves, Duke Ellington’s sheet music and presidential relics. The National Museum of American History opened in 1964 as the National Museum of History and Technology and changed its name in 1980.
