Los Angeles International Airport, often shorted to LAX, is the third busiest airport in the United States and the sixth in the world accommodating an average of 63.7 million passengers per year. It has been an air field since 1928 when it was called Mines Field. LAX offered commercial airline service in 1946 and the current terminal structure was built in 1961. It provides 680 daily flights to 96 American cities and 910 weekly nonstop flights to 59 cities in 30 countries on 60 commercial airlines.
