Established in 1893 as the Columbian Museum of Chicago, this institution's name was changed in 1905 to recognize its first major philanthropist Marshall Field and to represent its natural science connection. The museum, which was moved from Jackson Park to the Chicago Park District in 1921, boasts a collection of 25 million artifacts involving anthropology, botany, geology, environment, culture and zoology. In addition to the John G. Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum of Natural History makes up Museum Campus on the coast of Lake Michigan.
