This large Michigan city's nicknames include "Motor City," "Motown" and "Rock City" and "The Automotive Capital of the World." Located along the Detroit River, Detroit was founded in 1701 by French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe. Henry Ford build his first automobile in Detroit in 1896 and Ford and many other automobile giants built factories and headquarters in the city over the next few decades. City tourist attractions are Campus Martius Park, Comerica Park, Fox Theatre, Compuware World Headquarters, The Renaissance Center, Cadillac Place, The Spirit of Detroit, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Belle Isle State Park.
