The four-lane, 23-mile long bridge over Chesapeake Bay links Virginia's Delmarva Peninsula with Virginia Beach. Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel's northbound side designed by Sverdrup & Parcel was opened in 1964 and its southbound side designed by Sverdrup Civil, Inc opened in 1999. It is officially named the Lucius J. Kellam, Jr. Bridge-Tunnel and its One Island on the Bay is a popular tourist attraction on one of the bridge's man-made islands.
