Albany is the state capital of New York, located north to New York and situated on the west bank of the Hudson River. Albany was first settled in 1614 by Europeans and officially became a city in 1686, later becoming the capital of New York in 1797. Albany is one of the oldest surviving settlements from the original thirteen colonies in the United States. The capital state has a rich history of transportation and was one of the first cities in the world to install sewer lines, public water mains and electricity. The city of Albany was also one of the first cities to open a commercial airport.
